What Would a Selfless Spirit Be Like?

by Dr Glen Hepker -

Quite humbly and respectfully, I am speaking of the ‘spirit’ with which one goes about doing what one does…one’s demeanor or mien. In my ages-old arts it is coined as ‘shen.’

Again, “what would a selfless spirit of healthful, heartfelt goodness be like?”

  • Would it be light and free, yet full of dignity, decency, goodness, and grace?
  • Would its selflessness be consistent with resplendently endeavoring to do the right thing for the right sake…without the need for selfish recognition or hidden agendas?
  • Would such a spirit be full of the ‘truth,’ e.g., that we are all SO very much more in the same common boat than we often think and act (the primary fault of humankind being the notion that you are there and I am here)?
  • Would such a spirit recognize the true responsibility of supporting others in their healthful goals?
  • Would such a spirit recognize the true responsibility of making the world a better place…treating life as a living loving art form?
What would all of this mean in practical application, in daily life? In such a spirit, would it be difficult to ALWAYS be genuinely honest (with others AND ourselves) – maybe living in a state of fear, e.g., worrying that one would hurt others’ feelings if one was always honest?

As the old sayings go, “What would Christ do?” “What would Buddha do?” Again (quite!) humbly and respectfully,

I believe it is highly likely that Christ and Buddha would be quintessentially loving in speaking the honest truth, no more…no less.

I believe they would be the living loving embodiment of true appreciation and true forgiveness.

Is it possible that we can see them not just as impeccable examples of true health and true responsibility…but humbly and respectfully as mentors?

It IS likely quite true(!) that perfection (for us) on this Earth is not possible – perfection may be only found in Heaven (albeit, here on Earth a greatest of blessings may be in that there is always room for improvement).

Could it be, at least in an ideal sense, that we have a dire responsibility to at least try to live in an all-healing spirit of true appreciation…treating life as a living loving art form (maybe a ‘work of art’ – oh boy!)?

If there is a Heaven, a ‘key to the universe,’ they are rooted in true honesty, promoting of true happiness and true freedom…but most importantly, nothing to hide behind.

Maybe here on this Earth, we can learn to (in a splendidly healthful ‘spirit’) catch regular glimpses.
