The Art of Life; Creating Through Chaos

by  Jennifer Deisher -
There is an art to life and living, if we learn how to live it from the inside out instead of from the outside in. It requires the willingness to open our minds and hearts to our own unique, creative gifts.

More importantly, it allows us the freedom to see through the matrix of boxes and squares  and  detach ourselves from controlled illusion of our reality. Then, looking from the inside out, we  find that the reality  of creation is actually beautifully chaotic.
"Last night as I was sleeping, I dreamt that I had a beehive within my heart and the golden bees were making white combs and sweet honey from all of my bitter disappointments."  --Antonio Machado

Down The Rabbit Hole
As human Beings, we can become attached to all kinds of ideas of what we think we need to be happy – comfort, security, career, social circles. But when  we look deep within ourselves, we realize these needs  are  mostly of a material and external nature.

Although they can be alluring, the happiness we find in these  attachments and identifications is usually  temporary, as they  reflect  our relationship to the chaotic  outside world, not our personal, peaceful inner world.

Of course, when our happiness depends on conditions  outside ourselves and our control, we search for  completion  from the outside in. Then, when those  external conditions are taken away, so too is  our sense of peace and fulfilment. We have lost control over our emotional being.
But everything is upside down in this beautifully chaotic rabbit hole. In our attempt to find happiness in the  outside world, we often perceive external chaos as our lives “falling apart”, when really, circumstances are just starting to come together in our lives in ways we can’t  comprehend.
There’s terms for this state of being and several come to mind – rock bottom, crisis, despair, and/or finding the Spirit within (a process that will crack you wide open, but that’s another article in itself).

In these times, whether we can see it or not, our external attachments and identifications are stripped from us, and it is only within ourselves that we can  create  comfort in the chaos.

The Life Force

What we learn about love is backwards. We are raised believing we must search  for love outside ourselves, find someone to love us, and find someone to love. We learn that we are alone, incomplete and loveless without the love of another.
In reality, we ARE love, in its purest form. But we are  conditioned to feel  separated from  that  true nature of love, valuing only the love we receive from outside ourselves. This leaves us open to fear, as we believe that love itself can be taken away.
Love and hate (fear) are like oil and water, so when they interact on an energetic and emotional level we often find chaos  in the polarity  – an  allergic reaction if you will.

Our loving nature and our fearful conditioning can’t co-exist. Something has to give. And in that  dark and confusing place, we find rock bottom; the inky black energy of the aether, where our training and our  truth  collide.

It’s also the place where we find  our greatest opportunity  –  the  creative “spark”  to light  our  way out of the dark.
Even in our darkest and most painful times, we always have that opportunity; that  choice. It’s harder to make that choice when we are in an emotional state of change because change can feel like we’re losing something, and in uncertainty,  we  fear what may yet be.

As we shed our external attachments, the way forward  –  that creative spark  –  can only be found in the emotion of the moment, right now, not in feelings of loss (past) or fear (future).  The only way out is through.
As the old makes room for the new, our overwhelming emotions can sometimes make us feel  like we can’t go on. Fear, loss and grief are all common.  But what we’re feeling in those rock-bottom moments is actually  the stale old toxic energy dying,  not our life force!

It’s no vacation, but at the end of it, we are left with new circumstances, new energy, a new perspective. On a micro level, these  old energy patterns are being felt  and released by individuals, while on a macro level, humanity is currently reflecting the same process —  we’re at  rock-bottom, feeling the chaos of  this energetic clash, and using that spark to light creative new ways forward.
When we go into darkness, it’s  no vacation. It helps to remember:  when emotional chaos takes hold, the best remedy is simplicity.

When we simplify our lives and remove subjective distractions, it  brings us closer to alignment and objectivity. We become more sensitive  in our perceptions. We can be still with our thoughts and feelings, while also  exploring the opportunities they create.

This  will  tell you everything you need to know – even if it feels upside down (you’re in the rabbit hole, remember?)

The Big Move

First, it helps to know that we’ve done this before even if we can’t see it, or forgot how.

Through the process of shedding old energy and  creating ‘the new’, we’re changing, morphing, evolving and moving energy – the emotional kind of energy that comes with great weight, which is why the process of releasing it is  called enlightenment. (light bulb moment!)

Although the ego part of us may attach to the feeling of loss, and resist letting go of  old comfortable energy, this process of  unpacking our emotional baggage Lightens our emotional load and helps us to  align  our  energetic being  to  what our heart and soul essence is really searching for  —  change and the fear that comes with it. The whole gamut of conscious experience.
It can feel daunting, looking into our own personal rabbit hole, but don’t be scared. The darkness is part of  the great  aether which is the spiritual energy of creation.

The aehter is the “place” and the mindset where illusions are shattered, perspectives are changed, new dreams are forged, and something beautiful and honest is  born – seemingly from “nothing”.
Remember though, the “nothingness” you may experience is still something, because there is no such thing as nothing.

In the heart-felt stillness of the dark, we find the presence, openness  and creative spark we need to truly see our reality and consciously invigorate our lives,  aligning our outer world to our inner reality and desires.
So honor the darkness  for the experience that it is and the lessons it offers  your heart and mind  – and most of all,  know that it is temporary.
To make ‘the big move’ is basically  a 2-step process. First, we have to identify and connect with the fearful energy that wants to be expressed – or  released.

Most of us have an awareness of our fears and the patterns they create in our lives, even if we’re unsure how to process them and/or persuade them to move out.

This is the process that we don’t necessarily like so much because it’s uncomfortable at best.

The key is realizing that we need something to replace the fear in our heart.
When fear keeps us “stuck”, the reason we find it so hard to move is because we stop supporting  the Universe to  support us, by focusing our consciousness on the “what if’s” — what we don’t have,  what we can’t do,  what may  go wrong, and often, what other people think.

The ego’s  perception becomes about  “loss” and “want” and “fear” of  the potential future; and so we lose touch with our  natural sense of gratitude for now  —  which  is a necessary ingredient for co-creating with conscious intention.

Tthat sense of fear  is not real, it is  the  ego trying to protect itself from the worst case “what if’s” that may or may not happen  in the future, and  redirecting our attention back to familiar  patterns of behavior that may  gratify  the ego in the short term but do not serve  the Self in the long term.
Then,  when ego/fear prevents  us from trying, or even dreaming, nothing happens at all! Today or in the future… …and so, this is where we get “stuck”, going round and round trying to solve fearful problems in our heads, trying to resolve our fears with the  same  mentality that created them… more fear. It’s the emotional equivalent of  banging our heads against a  proverbial brick wall.
Ego  is  the antithesis of Oneness.

Inherently fearful of the unknown, ego  is hard wired into our biological flight-or-fight/fear response. It  views  reality in terms of  separation  and comparison to others,  blind to the bigger picture that exists  beyond its own self-oriented awareness.
The best  way to resolve the fear of doing is to DO. Go ahead and prove  your fearful ego wrong.
Sure, it can take great courage, discipline and self-understanding to honestly explore the dark recesses of our fears and ego.  But the truth  is, there is no other real option.

As we continue down this path of collective and personal  awakening, our unresolved ego/fears and their effects are becoming increasingly  obvious in our lives, and like any other unsustainable practice, we can no longer put them aside without consequence.
It’s time we cleared the space, start a fresh canvass, and show those  around us they can do the same too.

Grab a Pallette!

Our emotions ultimately tell us everything we need to know about what’s working and not working for us in our lives. When things aren’t “right”,  we experience discomfort or discontent in various areas of our life.

If we don’t allow these feelings to surface, and more importantly to guide our mind’s decisions, the  unresolved emotional energy will always find a way to be expressed, whether the ego likes it or not.

For many, the ongoing denial and apathy to  such challenging  feelings can  culminate in a ‘dark night of the soul’,  where the emotional veil suddenly drops and the  full range of emotional energies demand  that we feel them, and  heal them, at once.
In these times, we may not like what we see when we look at the canvas of our life. Reflecting on our fears and most painful experiences forces us to be aware of the fearful, unloving, or desperate decisions we’ve made in our lives.

We may not like the landscape we’ve painted, or the details in the background, or the truth about what we’ve emulated from our fear but we can change it, move it, enhance it, and color it in.

First we need to step back and really see the canvas objectively – without ego  – and feel the message within it.

Our pain, discontent,  anger and regret are  all  perfect indicators that we are settling for something  in our lives that is not aligned with our true Being. Exploring and acknowledging the whole spectrum of our feelings is  the first (and most difficult) step to  healing them, and starting over, creating through the chaos.
In order to unravel the effects of our feelings and experiences in ego  and  fear have  caused  on our  energetic landscape,  it’s a case of going back through the darkness in order to see the Light.

That’s the duality – Light doesn’t exist without dark, and the only way out is through. Follow the light.   Sometimes that means we have to stop, look, and listen in order to find a heartfelt stillness enabling us to truly see what our heart, and the universe by extension, is trying to show us.
Then, when we confront our true human and spiritual nature head on and “survive” the truth of our dark side (even though our ego feared  we would perish!)  we emerge with a new clearer perspective  — ready to create  a more honest, simple, joyful, meaningful, enriching, experiential kind of life.

The kind of life  that is perfectly aligned to the  inner Being we have come to know so well. The kind of life that is  impossible to create  while  the ego has us convinced  that what we want for ourselves is always somehow  out of our reach.

Colour in the Dark

Let’s be honest, our darker feelings of fear and chaos aren’t exactly  easy to look at up close and personal. We learn to keep our fear hidden just beyond the periphery of our conscious  awareness in order to stay “sane and functioning”.

The ego’s mode of operation is like a secret agent in stealth mode encouraging the turbulence of our fear. Its very purpose is to make us aware of our own fears and/or limitations taking us into the darkness of the aether.

The  darkness only obscures our view, hiding a blank canvass of infinite potential. We have something the ego doesn’t though — color, light and shade which equates to every imaginable outcome.
Creating something *NEW* is the best way to release emotional baggage and re-color our lives into a canvas we can’t wait  to claim as our own and share with the world.

If we allow ourselves to fully experience the dark side of our emotional existence, we can use that experience as both a motivation and a tool to create new experiences, new relationships, and new outcomes.
Our creative juices move in synchronicity  with the universal flow  of creation when we allow  ourselves to be  guided by our hearts.  As we release our fears and overcome the  urges of the short-sighted  ego, we  learn to listen to our heart and to our inner  guidance.

The dreamer’s dream comes to life before our very eyes and it mirrors back to us all that we truly are  – beautiful, colourful, and unique Beings of light, consciously co-creating  our own canvas,  and transcending the darkness of the aether.

Fun and rewarding, our existence suddenly becomes a vibrant colorful life when we make the choice to embody the art of life, with all its light and shade and open ourselves to experience its endless, beautifully chaotic possibilities.

Finding Your Unique Purpose

by Edmund Bourne PhD -

The inability to find meaning in life usually reflects a degree of self-alienation. Such a condition results in a tendency to pursue satisfactions and stimulation on the outside rather than from within.

Materialistic goals, concern with appearances, and addictions may all be used to fill an inner emptiness which is often felt as an unsettled feeling or chronic anxiety. External solutions may work, but only temporarily—they provide a quick fix rather than a true healing.

Global Shift: Finding your unique purpose
To reestablish meaning in life is to rediscover your soul. An important step in this direction is to find your soul’s own innate and natural passion—which is what inspires your unique purpose.

This is not something you have to create. You came into the world with it, and it likely was evident when you were a child.

Unfortunately, education, socialization, and the trauma of entering adulthood may have obscured the natural gifts and talents you brought into the world to express.

If you’ve wandered too far away from your innermost wellspring of creativity, you’ve probably ended up, like many people, feeling too busy and rather alienated. Discovering your unique purpose will help overcome this self-alienation as well as contribute to something greater than yourself.

Discovering your unique purpose (or purposes) can restore meaning to your life—and an increased capacity to look to yourself rather than the outside for the spark of life itself.
DEFINING "LIFE PURPOSE"

If you search inside yourself, your life purpose is something you need to do in order to feel whole, complete, and fulfilled in your life.

It’s uniquely your own—something that can’t be duplicated. Only you can do it.

Your unique life purpose comes from within and has little or nothing to do with what your parents, partner or friends might want you to do.

It’s something that expresses a particular talent, gift, skill, or desire that you hold most dear. In fulfilling it, you discover your own unique way to be creative.

Generally, your life purpose is something that reaches beyond the limited needs and concerns of your own ego. It is "other-directed," having an impact on something or someone beyond just yourself.

Your life purpose might involve raising a child, contributing to your community, or teaching something you’ve learned from your personal experience. When you’re fulfilling your life purpose, your life takes on a new dimension of meaning beyond self-interest.

From a larger standpoint, your life purpose is an important activity or service your soul came into this world to accomplish. The metaphysical idea of "life purpose" appears in various religious traditions.

In Christianity it’s referred to as a "calling," while in Eastern religions it is often spoken of as your "personal dharma."

The assumption is that your life purpose, especially the gifts and talents on which it’s based, is Divinely appointed. In some lofty sense, it was decided on and perhaps even planned out before you were born.

You came into the world with your unique purpose as a potential. It’s your choice and free will that determines whether you fulfill your particular purpose, as well as how you go about doing it. Yet the potential itself remains latent in your soul. As long as your life is focused solely on personal gratification of bodily and ego needs, you may continue to feel something is incomplete or missing.

To the extent that you discover and begin to express your unique purpose(s), you are likely to feel a deep sense of rightness and direction in your life. To be aligned with your life purpose gives your life a positive direction—not to may result in a sense of drifting, or keeping busy to avoid feeling empty.

There is no longer as great a need to seek pleasure in outer material things, since you begin to feel an increasing inner satisfaction that you are "on course"—doing what you came here to do.

To align with your unique life purpose is an important step in healing yourself and becoming all you can be. In doing so, you begin to be more in touch with the creative forces and intelligence of fields of consciousness beyond yourself.

It’s important to realize that your life purpose may not necessarily be grand in scope. Size of impact is less important than quality. Your purpose may be about raising a family, contributing to a social or political cause, or sheltering injured or sick animals. Or, it might involve artistic pursuits, such as painting, playing an instrument, or writing poetry.

Perhaps volunteering your services for a youth group or teaching a Sunday school class might fulfill your life purpose.

Often your life purpose does not become clear until you’ve worked through some of your personality issues.

Resolving unfinished business with your parents, taking care of your financial and security needs, overcoming social fears and learning to be assertive may all be part of the "groundwork" that needs to be done before you can fully express your life purpose.

It’s difficult for your creativity to fully blossom until you’ve freed up sufficient energy within yourself from personality and interpersonal conflicts.

In fact, confronting and dealing with personality issues is also an important part of what you came here to do, along with expressing your unique purpose.

In an important sense, a major part of your life purpose is to do the inner psychological work necessary to handle your personal needs and achieve a sense of identity and self-worth. (That’s not to say that you can’t begin to express your unique mission while still dealing with your personality issues.)
DISCOVERING YOUR OWN LIFE PURPOSE
Finding your purpose

If you currently feel out of touch with your life purpose, how do you go about discovering what it is?

If you haven’t already, think about to what extent your current job is expressing what you would truly like to do with your life. Is there something you would rather be doing?

If so, what education or retraining would be required in order to transition to what you would like to do. If it doesn’t seem feasible right now—financially or otherwise—to make a fundamental career change, then reflect on what other interests spark your enthusiasm.

Is there a hobby, avocation, or volunteer opportunity you could do in your spare time that would add a dimension of meaning to your life? Something you’ve thought about for awhile but felt you never had the time to do.

Often discovering what truly fulfills your unique interest means that you have to jump in and try something out, without knowing ahead of time how it’s going to work out.

Ultimately, whatever it is that answers your personal call will contribute to someone or something larger than yourself, whether it is raising a family, entertaining people with your singing voice, creating a beautiful and eco-friendly garden, giving some of your time to soup kitchen for homeless people, or inventing a cost-effective solar panel.

If realizing your purpose involves making a career change, it might be helpful-- beyond simply reading about the new vocation-- to work with a career counselor.

Also you can ask people who are doing that type of work what it’s like. If it involves going back to school, you’ll want to talk to a guidance counselor at the school you’re considering. Perhaps reading books on the subject such as those of Carol Adrienne will be helpful.
GUIDELINES FOR REFLECTING ON YOUR LIFE PURPOSE

To assist you in thinking about what kinds of activities or career might fulfill your life purpose, consider the following guidelines:

Listen to what your heart tells you about what you would most love to do or be.

Be sure to separate your unique goals and objectives from those of your parents, spouse, friends, or others. Only you can know what your true mission is.

Your life purpose may or may not be your actual vocation. It could be a hobby, pastime, or avocation.

Notice negative self-talk that puts down the dreams or inner fantasies that your heart offers up.

For example:

  • "It’s impossible to do what I want and still make a living."
  • "It’s too late to go back and get the training"
  • "Nice idea but impractical."
  • "They won’t approve."
  • "But I don’t have the talent for it."
  • "With so much to do, I don’t have the time."
  • "It’s too much work—too difficult."
  • "No one’s going to be interested, anyway."

(Resistance statements like these are often clues to showing you what your deepest purpose or "personal dream" actually might be!)

Keep in mind the famous maxim:

"God never gives us a vision without also giving us the capacity to make it come true."

Ask your own inner wisdom or Higher Power to help you discover and clarify what your life purpose might be. In your deepest self, you already know what your mission or purpose is.

Look for synchronicities. When you are moving toward your life purpose, amazing coincidences will often happen to give you confirmation that you’re on the right course.

Realize that fulfilling your life purpose may involve taking risks and giving up certain aspects of your life as you know it right now. Are you up to taking such risks? If not, think about ways you could get support for doing so.
VISUALIZE YOUR LIFE PURPOSE

After you have a good idea about the nature of your life purpose, write a scenario on a separate sheet of paper about what your life would look like if you were to fully realize this purpose (or purposes).

You can design separate visualizations for each purpose or incorporate the realization of all of your life purposes into a single description.

Be sure to make your scenario sufficiently detailed to include where you’re living and working, who you’re with, what activities make up your day, and how atypical day would look.

Once you’ve completed a detailed description, record it on tape, preferably in your own voice. You may want to record it after a few minutes of preliminary instructions to relax.

Visualizing the fulfillment of your life purpose on a regular, consistent basis will go a long way toward helping you to actually realize your goal.

How to Cultivate Miracles

by Keith Varnum -

I’ve been blessed with a life adventure full of miracles. When people read about the magic in my life, they often ask me, “Why have you had these fascinating extraordinary experiences—and not me?”

I suggest to them that a more accurate way for them to ask that question might be, “Why do you recall all these extra-ordinary events—and not me?”

I’ve been a life coach and acupuncturist for over thirty years. In order to help people uncover the root causes of their problems, I had to delve deeply into the underlying facts beneath the surface of their lives.

I had to reveal some truth behind the superficial stories we tell ourselves. I had to discover the real scoop hidden by our socially acceptable explanations of how life works.

Surprise Findings

In this detective process, I found out that just as many extra-ordinary events occur in most people’s lives as occur in mine! So, then, how come most folks aren’t aware of the extra-ordinary in their lives? Good question!

One reason many people don’t feel their lives are filled with exceptional events is because they don’t notice the uncommon events when they occur! They literally don’t see what is going on right in front of their eyes.

Why not? Another great question.
  • They don’t see the magic because they aren’t looking in the right place.
  • They don’t see the magic because they aren’t looking in the right way.
  • They don’t see the magic because they aren’t looking for magic!

What are they doing?
  • They’re looking for what they expect to see.
  • They’re looking for what they’re conditioned to see.
  • They’re looking for what they’re told is there!

Dullsville, PA

I’ve come to realize that I happened to grow up in an environment that nurtured my ability to see beyond the borders of the believable.

Firstly, the small, remote Pennsylvania mountain town I grew up in had to be one of the most boring places on Earth! Nothing ever happened out of the ordinary there.

In this nondescript village there were no fights, no drugs, no crime, no minorities, no crises—not even divorce or betrayal (that anyone talked about). No fuss, no muss—just white picket fences and 4th of July parades and apple pie.

The only thing that ever changed in my hometown were the four seasons. And they were often almost the same—cloudy or rainy.

The Rest of the Story

Of course, there was the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say. The foundation of this typical small town America did have its cracks beneath the veneer of public harmony.

These deviations from the American Dream were never mentioned. Not between town folk. Not between drinking buddies. Not at the bridge table. Not on the golf course. Not at home. And not even to oneself!

Thus, on the surface of it all, all was well. … And extremely mind-numbing to a young kid!

So, just to entertain myself, just to pass the time on days just like every other day, I began to look for anything in my life, in my town, that was out of the ordinary—outside of the obvious, predictable everyday occurrences.

Guess What?

What you look for, shows up. What you look for, you see.

I desperately wanted to see something different or new. I longed for anything unusual or strange.

I sent my attention out searching for any element of life that was out of order, sync or sequence with the everyday humdrum routine.

And, sure enough, I found it! Everywhere I looked. … In my life. In other people’s lives. In school. On the street.

Everywhere I looked with the intention to see more than what’s expected, I saw more of what didn’t fit my expectations.

When I looked outside the box, I saw life outside the box. And when I got outside my own limited paradigm, I could appreciate the view from other people’s paradigms.

I witnessed teenage friends—and myself—being “miraculously” saved from disastrous car accidents. I saw people (angels) pop out of nowhere to save townfolk in a desperate situations.

I watched time contract (or expand) to fit the prayers of those in need. I observed synchronicities that guided me to the best course of action.

Mealtime Mystery

A second eye-opener in my youth occurred at every meal. My father was a lawyer and my mother a court reporter.

Our family discussions at the kitchen table always centered on their legal court cases. Court cases by their very nature are centered around disputes, disagreements—differences of perception.

I was constantly being presented with a particularly curious and startling phenomenon. Three witnesses to a car accident: three different stories of what has occurred. Four people involved in dispute: four equally possible versions of the “facts.”

I learned that the truth is in the eye of the beholder.

Or rather, the truths are in the eyes of the beholders!

The Prison of the Prism

I became aware of the prison of the prism through which we each view our world. The perceptual filters of our known paradigm literally create what we can see—and what we can’t see!

The Undoing of My Upbringing

These two unusual aspects of my upbringing had a profound influence on how I experienced everyday life.

I began to see the cracks in the façade of the social matrix.

And I found a way to use these cracks in the social fabric to break on through to the other side. To view another world of options and alternatives.

To enter a wider range of possibilities and adventures. I could see not only what was happening in other people’s worlds but also what could happen in the world of infinite possibility (miracles).

How ‘Bout You?

What experiences or circumstances in your background have opened the door for you to expand your vision of what is possible in life?

Showtime

Would you like to recall the forgotten magic that has occurred in your life?

Would you like more everyday miracles in your life today?

My suggestion?
  • Make a conscious decision to welcome the uncommon.
  • Invite the unexplainable.
  • Be open for the new and different.
  • Treasure the strange and weird.

Celebrate surprise... and you will be surprised… by a whole new world of wonder and amazement.

How Life is Rigged in Your Favor

by Keith Varnum -

The cards are stacked in your favor. The cards are stacked for your abundance. The cards are stacked for your health. The cards are stacked for your joy.

The very nature of the universe is grace. Your natural state is one of joy, love and peace.

All you have to do is let go into that natural state. When you let go, all your life will be re-arranged in alignment with that harmony and balance.

The basic structure of the universe is unity and cooperation. The Universal Matrix is set up for harmony—for us all to win, for everyone to win. It’s a win-win-win affair.

There’s Nothing You Need to Do

There’s nothing you need to do but let go into the naturally harmonious, giving universe.
  • You don’t have to do any practices perfectly, or even right.
  • You don’t have to eat the right foods or do an hour of yoga daily.
  • You don’t have to worry about choosing the best spiritual technique or approach.
  • There’s no right or wrong way to do life.
  • All roads lead to Home. You can’t do it wrong.
Let Go of the Maintenance Project

All you have to do is to let go of the maintenance project—all the things you think you have to do to get it right—all the things you think you have to hold it all together.

But you don’t have to hold it all together. You don’t have to make sure it doesn’t all fall apart.

The universe will hold itself together—in a self-regulating dance of change and harmony.

Let Go of the Need to Be a Good Person

You can let go of the need to be a good person.

You’re already a good person. You’ve always been a good person. You’ll always be a good person. There is no original sin. No inherent badness or evil to overcome. We are whole and complete and perfect just as we are.

You Don’t Have to Become Worthy

You don’t have to create being worthy. You are worthy. You’ve always been worthy. You’re ok just the way you are. You’ve always been ok the way you are.

The world is ok the way it is. The world’s always been ok the way it is.

You Don’t Have to Believe

You don’t have to believe any of this. Or think that it’s true. Let go and find out. Just let go and find out for yourself.

Let go of doing everything that you think you have to do. Let go of doing everything that you feel you should do. See what happens!

Discover for yourself the true nature of life.

Let go and find out!

Does Your Life Have Meaning?

by Carol Powel Smith -

How often do you ask yourself, "What’s it all about? What’s my purpose? Where am I going?" Like most people, many times I would imagine.

In reality we won’t know the answer to that question while we are alive. We can speculate and guess and make educated hypotheses.

We can also learn to listen to our inner voice, telling us that something just feels right.

For some, being on Earth is to wake up in the morning, do your “thing” during the day and go to bed at night, then repeat it all the next day; with no in-depth meaning of what life is about.

For others, being on Earth is about experiencing life, being glad you are alive and looking forward to the next day because it has meaning for you.

There will always be extremists who believe in one extreme or another. At one end are the people who view life as having no meaning. They don’t believe in God or any form of a higher Being.

Its okay when things are going well but they are ill equipped to handle the rough spots. At the other end are the people who have a deep-seated belief in a Divine Being. These people have something to fall back onto when the going gets rough. It may still be painful but nevertheless, they have some form of meaning in their life.

Why are we here?

Those who have no religious or spiritual beliefs won’t care very much. “Maybe its all an accident of nature” say some. “We were cloned and put here from another planet to populate Earth” say others.

Fortunately, there are many that believe that we are here on planet Earth to grow in consciousness, to express love and even be a co-creator with God.

Surprisingly, many people who live in tyranny and desperate poverty are able to grow in consciousness despite the absence of outside ideas or help. One would think that the daily challenge of subsistence living would take all of their effort.

Nevertheless, many develop a deep belief system –individually or with their local group- and often seem to achieve that growth more quickly than people in more affluent countries.

We should never lose sight of the fact that the United States is a wonderful place to live. Here we have above all, freedom of speech and belief.

Our environment is conducive for learning and expanding our consciousness. However, all the luxuries that we have often make us lose track of the significance of keeping in touch with our spiritual side.

To grow in consciousness and be an expression of the Divine Source requires some effort on our part. But, it is well worth the effort.

Think of your life as an expression of God, experiencing a journey on planet Earth. Learning to be a creature of love, still faced with trials and obstacles of everyday life but developing faith and trust in a Divine Plan.

Know that there is a reason for your life, and if we all start by trusting the Divine Source, life is less painful, more tranquil and more rewarding.

We all have a choice in life; to be kind and understanding or be cold and uncaring, with no concern for others. You will find that life actually goes more smoothly for you if you follow the path of Loving-Kindness.

Every time someone does a kind deed or says words of kindness it helps to raise the level of consciousness as a whole. Just think what a wonderful world it would be, if everyday each person consciously committed an act of loving-kindness.

It doesn’t take much, just a smile or even making eye contact with someone whom is in need of a “pick me up”.

Then think what the world would be like if we all went around self-serving and full of bitterness, each person caring only for him or her self. Not a very pretty picture, surely not what the Creator had in mind, not what its all about.

The world is made a better place one step at a time by each one of us taking the time to be considerate and caring. It really doesn"t take much effort on our part and the benefits are well worth it. Try it ; you might like it!

Need an Attitude Adjustment?

by Lynn Banis PhD -

Feeling down? Frustrated? Aggravated? Bummed out? Angry? Vengeful?

Whatever it is, it is not the place you want to be but you are not sure how to get out of it. All of us get out of sorts at times. Getting back in a good mood is sometimes - well, lots of times - harder to achieve than just staying in the bad attitude. What can you do to quickly make an attitude adjustment?

First, you are the only person in charge of your mood and only you can change it.

When you can make the shift to really believe that, not just intellectually but deep down in your heart, you will begin to realize that up until you make it part of your belief system you are giving over your power to other people.

What do I mean by that?

How often have you said, "You make me angry. That made me so sad. Public speaking makes me so nervous."? That is what I mean by giving over your power.

How exactly, do those things make you angry, sad nervous? Are they standing there say you must be angry, sad, nervous? Are they forcing you to do it? How is that possible?

I am definitely not saying that you don't have legitimate emotional reactions. I am saying that you chose how to feel from then on. For instance, when my son talks back I feel angry.

I then have a choice to make. I can choose to stay angry and fight with him, I can feel sad that he feels he needs to act that way, I can feel vengeful and laugh at him - there are all sorts of things I can choose to feel.

What happens after my choice will be based on what I said or did. If I chose to empathize with my son yet stand my ground, I believe I might have a opportunity to open up some communication about why he was late.

Now let's apply this to ourselves when we need an attitude adjustment.

3 Simple Steps

The first step is to recognize opportunities to step in and take charge of your attitude. Usually we don't realize we are in an "attitude" until we are well into it.

What is the first thing you notice when an attitude that you would like to change hits?

Try to think of a physical thing. Maybe you have a tightening in your chest or stomach, maybe you feel your neck or face blush.

Whatever it is for you can be turned into a signal telling you to stop and make a decision about how you are going to look at this situation before going forward.

Second, when your signal or red flag, as I call it, goes up STOP. Acknowledge to yourself that you caught it and then remind yourself that you are now in charge and you can chose what you are going to do and how you are going to act in response to the triggering incident.

Third, consider what you really want out of the situation. Do you want a fight, then fight. Do you want to clear the air, then clear the air. Do you want to minimize the incident, then minimize the incident. You get the picture!

Remember, your behavior and the emotions - which come across to others as your attitude - are yours to control. Step up and take your life back. It is yours after all.

Does Life Have to Be So Hard?

by Shirlee Hall -

Ever since I could read the printed word and carefully listened to religious teachers and philosophers expound on how they interpret universal law, creation and alchemy, I have always asked myself whether they know the Sublime firsthand.

Humanity has been repeatedly impacted with rules, regulations and tedious suggestions on how to attain enlightenment.

Could interpretations actually be a ‘back door’ method?

According to ancient and current thinking, Pure Awareness, Christ or Buddhic Consciousness and the multifarious degrees of Enlightenment require lifetimes of study, self examination, patience, compassion, mindfulness, meditation and a wide array of available tools.

Love is the golden thread behind the teaching.

It is suggested we have a physical teacher. A temporary teacher is very helpful if he has personally experienced everything suggested to the student.

If persistent, once a soul decides it has had enough of all the programming, deception, judgment and abuse on many levels, a genuine and heightened awareness will surface.

The meaning of Oneness is finally understood. When pure intention allows light to flow into the right channels, desire is good. When our inner reality is harmonious, duality is good.

It is then that we see clearly; our peace understands and acts.

Suffering is the direct result of falsity being in charge.

If a strong foundation of real understanding is not established, energy is corrupted. The collective consciousness continues to be immersed in the illusion of matter.

As souls awaken, everything is understood from a loftier perspective. Even though words are written, Silence is preferred. The words heard, written and viewed by the inner Self emanate as the language of Light.

Light is a subtle and spirit directed language. First, a firm and conscious connection must be established. I’ve always referred to the connection as a love affair. Being psychic or experiencing the gifts of Spirit are not a prerequisite.

The greatest healing is spontaneous and natural; it occurs when the participant inwardly decides he is ready to be the grander Self in matter.

The process is triggered by a higher form of surrender.

Why not establish a celestial consciousness in matter? Why not live as a conscious example of the inner divinity?

Why wait? Waiting is reluctance prompted by fear.

Thousands are ready to sound the trumpet. Although willing, there may be a magical note missing in the song they have created. Intuitively, feelings are true and hearts are in the ‘right’ place and yet, they have not fully surrendered.

Surrender is a choice. Surrender is a focused unconditional love powerfully trusting, knowing, watching and participating in life from the view of the Sublime.

The Secret of Effortless Happiness

by Guy Finley

Have you ever noticed just how unhappy you can get over the fact you are not happy?

Unexamined, this behavior seems to make sense. But a closer look at it will reveal that being unhappy over being unhappy is like throwing gasoline on a fire to put it out.

You get lots of fire and smoke -- even a strange excitement -- but in the end all you are left with is ashes. This is why you must understand this next amazing fact.

You can make yourself miserable but you can't make yourself happy.

This shouldn't be too much of a surprise as we begin to learn that we have been unconscious conspirators in our own unhappy lives.

Even if it wasn't being pointed out, most of us can admit that at times we do make ourselves miserable. But there is nothing good about feeling bad.

There is never a justification for tolerating self-misery because what is self-induced can be self-reduced and ultimately eliminated if you are willing to understand the underlying causes.

This is why we must look at why it is impossible to make ourselves happy if we ever want to come upon authentic happiness.

Outside of drugs and alcohol, which are obviously not the way to happiness, whenever you want to make yourself happy, you must put forth an effort of some kind. Effort implies the application of force in a specific direction.

We can see that this is good and necessary in following preconceived plans for construction projects, business concerns or cooking, for example.

You can also make an effort to imagine or visualize new shapes and ideas to help in the creative process. But when it comes to being happy, any effort is the wrong one.

Let's see if this is true. If it is, then we are on the verge of an even higher discovery:

Real happiness is effortless.

Let's find out more about this new possibility.

As we described, where there is an effort, there is, whether known or not, always a plan. All plans by definition are to build something; in this instance your plans are to build happiness.

With this preconceived plan, this picture of happiness firmly fixed in your mind, you meet each of life's events looking for your picture instead of experiencing what life has brought to you.

This painful and stress-producing process of comparison goes on unknowingly and it ruins everything it touches. Life becomes a series of disappointments instead of a series of happy adventures.

Please ponder this next point. You could never be unhappy with anything you found in this life if you didn't already have it fixed in your mind what you were looking for.

Hopefully, we can learn from this that our ideas about happiness are more often than not the very root of our unhappiness. The point here is that happiness cannot be made. It is not the result of anything.

Happiness comes to those who understand that you can't seek it any more than you seek the air you breathe.

It is a part of life to be found within living.

The excitement of anticipation is not happiness, any more than smelling freshly-baked bread nourishes a hungry body.

All pursuit of happiness is based upon the false assumption that happiness can be possessed. It cannot.

Happiness is the natural expression of a stress-free life, just as sunlight naturally warms the earth after dark clouds disappear.
