What are your first thoughts when you awaken each day? Do you believe it is going to be a good day? Do you see great possibilities and look forward to the unfolding of events? Or, do you frown about having to get out of bed? Do you think it's going to be another day of struggle and hardship?
Belief is a projection, a mental formulation that emanates from our mind and creates a magnetic environment around us.
When we project that we are going to have a good day, we tend to look for such things that will support such a projection and attract them into our lives. Likewise, when we believe that we are going to have a bad day, we tend to set up the situations that align with that perspective.
It is commonly accepted that to have favorable results in life, it is beneficial to practice positive belief over negative belief.
We hope for the best. The nature of belief is in separation consciousness. Positive and negative belief are two sides of the same coin. Belief stems from "not-knowing," and is often no more than an expectation, opinion or educated guess.
For example, for centuries it was a commonly-held belief that the sun rotated around the Earth. This was an educated guess that appealed to common sense, as the sun evidently raced across the sky each day.
With an expanded perspective of the solar system, we now know that the Earth revolves around the sun. The prior belief -- a guess based on appearances -- has been dropped in lieu of the truth based on direct observation from an expanded perspective.
The assertion that "I am going to have a good day" is an expectation, a form of belief.
Again, in the realm of expectations, it is helpful to create positive expectations over negative expectations. An athlete steps who steps to the starting line with an expectation of "I am going to have a great race" will likely have a better performance than if he thinks "I am going to have an awful race."
Belief is always related to "I" or the individuality, which is a reflection of separation consciousness. Every belief is preceded by the "I" as in "I believe in God," or "I believe in UFOs."
When the "I" is set aside in unity consciousness, so the accompanying belief falls away as well.
And when there is no more belief, what remains is Truth.
If one drops a belief in God, this does not alter the reality of there being or not being a God. It only changes one's perspective;
Truth remains.
Truth is a state of knowingness in unity consciousness.
In Truth, there are no beliefs, no expectations and no educated guesses, all seen as projections of the mind. Positive and negative beliefs are fused into an inner knowingness, an understanding of That Which Is.
There is peace in the moment, a calm assurance that all is unfolding according to the omniscience of the universe.
There is no "good" day or "bad" day; the moment unto itself is complete. Existence is not in need of our projections and expectations to unfold in its grandeur.
It Simply Is.
A rose is beautiful. It is not beautiful because it proclaims as such every morning. Nor, does it work hard at being beautiful. It has no expectations for the day, nor beliefs that it will turn out one way or another.
It simply IS, pure and simple, and in its ISNESS it is beautiful to our eye. It's beauty is inherent in its nature.
One who views from unity consciousness may be asked, "Do you believe in God?," a common inquiry of the day. Unity perspective does not recognize belief, so it is not an issue of a belief or lack of belief in God.
Truth simply is, and in unity experience one is assimilated with Truth and becomes this knowingness. There can be an attempt to call Truth by names, to explain the nature of existence but this nature is infinite and beyond the scope of separation consciousness and language.
With Truth comes an understanding, far beyond that which was understood in a field of belief and conjecture.
The state of unity arises in the stillness of the mind, that is, when the mind does not have the capacity to devise or project beliefs of any sort.
Many of us have become so attached to and identified with our beliefs that we insist they are the core of our being. We can become so identified with the belief that we are a Democrat or a Christian or an American that we take strong offense when such labels are challenged or opposed.
All such labels are projections that we have created or accepted as part of our separation reality.
Such labels can disappear in the blink of an eye as our perceptions change. From a higher view, we no longer identify with the labels, though we recognize we are free wear such labels and claim such beliefs if we wish. Take away the labels, remove the clothing of belief, and we stand naked in our knowingness.
There is a power in positive thinking, a power that trumps negative thinking.
This is the power of positive belief. Yet, note that every positive thought has on its flip side a negative thought and vice versa, as in two sides of a coin.
Often positive thought is a reflection of the fear, doubt and worry that plagues the mind.
The positive thought is created as a balance to the existing or underlying negative thought. If a person walks scared through a dark alley at night, he can create a thought, "I am safe," to counteract his fear.
There cannot be positive without negative and vice versa. Such is the way of separation consciousness. It is dualistic in its nature.
By transcending duality, one transcends the positive/negative coupling. Judgment is a projection of positive/negative, good/bad and other such dualities.
Going beyond separation into oneness is a step into Truth, into knowingness, into the stillness of the mind. There is no longer the need to believe when one knows.
